Harald’s Famous Glühwein Recipe!

Feeling chilly? This warming Glühwein recipe that we served during Winter WineFest 2018, and we are happy to share it with you now!

6 bottles Hidden Bench Pinot Noir (or Riesling for a unique and delicious version!)
6 oranges – Halved
6 oranges – Sliced into Quarters
2 lemons – Sliced (prefer Meyer lemons)
6 cinnamon sticks
3-4 Star Anise
15-20 Cloves
3-4 Cardamom Pods (do not use powder)
½ cup sugar

(rum or kirsch liquor added to taste)

Pour wine into a large saucepan and insert cloves into the halved oranges and add to wine. Slowly heat up mixture all the while adding the balance of ingredients. Please be careful to not let boil!

Simmer for approximately 30 minutes. Remove spices after 30 minutes and discard.

*We recommend putting the spices into a bouquet garni for easy removal.
