Hidden Bench “Grand Cru” Designation
Hidden Bench humbled by designation as first Niagara “Grand Cru" winery and vineyard
This past December Niagara based wine writer Rick VanSickle joined our owner and vigneron, Harald Thiel to taste through our complete current and upcoming portfolio of estate wines. We were surprised and honoured to have our 2015 Rosomel Vineyard Pinot Noir (May 2018 release) included in his top red wines of 2017. This is the first bottling of this wine as a single vineyard and we were very pleased to receive the 93 points it was awarded.
Early in the new year we were once again surprised and honoured to read his kind word inferring a “Grand Cru” status to our 3 estate vineyards and our wines as well as recognizing our attention to detail approach to viniculture.
At Hidden Bench we strive to make memorable, terroir driven wines by respecting the unique terroir of our estate vineyards. We are fortunate to be the stewards of the Locust Lane, Felseck, and Rosomel Vineyards, all situated on the Beamsville Bench and do our upmost to give back to the land what it gives us, by farming organically. Our passion for excellence is exemplified by our acute attention to detail from vineyard to bottle which permitted all wines reviewed to receive 90+ scores. We are humbled by Rick’s kind words and designation of Hidden Bench as Niagara’s first “Grand Cru” producer. Although some wines are not yet released we look forward to sharing them with all of you when they are.
